SUMMARY:Mobile Apps for Bootstrappers: Intro to Cross Platform Mobile App with React Native
DESCRIPTION:This workshop will provide a technically focused introduction to building a cross platform (iOS and Android) mobile applications using React Native. In addition\, Robert will provide some notes on his experience using React Native to build and release an app to the App/Play stores. \nThis workshop is intended for software developers interested in learning the basics of React Native and/or considering using it for future projects. A working knowledge of Javascript\, Node.js and NPM will be required to work through the workshop activities. \nThe workshop will cover: \n\nStarting a React Native Project and Application Structure (Folder and Files)\nReact basics\, JSX\, and React Native Components.\nLayout with Flexbox\nGetting Data from APIs\nStyling with CSS\nUsing third party packages\n\nAt the end of the workshop we will have built a fully functional mobile application. \nMore about the Speaker: \nRobert Rupp is currently a software engineer at EaseCentral\, a San Francisco based SaaS company\, that provides web based solutions to small group insurance brokers. \nRobert has 6 years of software development experience primarily focused on desktop and web based business applications\, and recently released a cross platform React Native mobile application: “Speedline” (speedlineapp.com)\, a PATCO Schedule app.

DESCRIPTION:“Communication for Innovators” is an interactive public speaking seminar designed to help participants express their creative ideas with confidence\, clarity and persuasiveness.The seminar contains two components: – A public speaking lecture – An interactive\, participatory and peer-reviewed speaking exercise. The objective is to not only prepare participants for potential venture capital meetings\, but also to enhance the way they formally structure and deliver ideas to audiences.\n\nInteractive Public Speaking Exercise:\nDuring the interactive public speaking exercise\, participants will take turns answering impromptu questions before the group. Fellow attendees will time their responses\, count “ums and ahs” and scan for the application of techniques from the lecture. In 1987\, he founded Network For Teaching Entrepreneurship (NFTE)\, a nonprofit organization which gives at-risk youth from low-income backgrounds opportunities to receive entrepreneurial education while attending high school. \nHis accomplishments include: \n\n2012 inductee into the Entrepreneurship Hall of Fame.\nNumerous awards\, including an Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year Award\, the Bernard A. DESCRIPTION:Come learn the very basics of coding! In this workshop\, the girls will use Blockly\, a drag and drop language to interface with the memory of the computer. They will be trying a number of puzzles\, mazes and games to explore sequential events\, selection and repetition. Students will also begin to learn to code using real language with CodinGame\, a free online program that allows coders at any stage to improve their coding skills by solving the World’s most challenging problems\, learn new concepts\, and get inspired by the best developers.
